Although Iran's national soccer team has qualified for the 2026 World Cup, extremely tense relations between the US and Iran raise questions about the team's participation. British journalists suggest that entry bans in the US for Iranian citizens could make it impossible for players and fans to travel. Iran could play their group matches in Mexico if drawn in the third qualifying group. FIFA could intervene to facilitate access for the Iranian team.
