At the Madrid Open, a WTA 1000 tournament, Sorana Cîrstea, Irina Begu and Jaqueline Cristian represent Romania in the main draw.

Jaqueline Cristian will play British Sonay Kartal in the first round, and a win would mean a showdown with 17th seed Elina Svitolina.

Sorana Cîrstea will play wild card Hailey Baptiste (USA). The winner of the match will then play Croatian Donna Vekic.

Irina Begu will face Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina and the winner will then play 30th seed Anna Kalinskaya.
