At the Madrid Open, a WTA 1000 tournament, Sorana Cîrstea, Irina Begu and Jaqueline Cristian represent Romania in the main draw.


Jaqueline Cristian will play British Sonay Kartal in the first round, and a win would mean a showdown with 17th seed Elina Svitolina.

Sorana Cîrstea will play wild card Hailey Baptiste (USA). The winner of the match will then play Croatian Donna Vekic.
