Romania's national team was defeated on Friday evening in Warsaw, 6-0, by Poland's national team in the third round of the Nations League group stage. This heavy defeat comes after two other losses in Group B4: 1-2 against Sweden and 2-4 against Bosnia.
Despite playing well in the first 20 minutes, the Tricolours were dealt a heavy blow near the halfway point of the first half. In the position of the last defender, Radu Drăgușin pushed Robert Lewandowski in the box, which led to a penalty being awarded and, consequently, a red card being shown to the Romanian defender.
Lewandowski himself converted the awarded penalty without any problems, making the score 1-0 for Poland in the 24th minute. Forced to make an early substitution, Hagi sent Coubiș onto the pitch, with the central defender replacing winger Mihăilă. At halftime, the score was 1-0 for Poland.
The Poles wasted no time at all after play resumed. Lewandowski scored again in the 47th minute. The nightmare continued for the Tricolours: just 2 minutes later, Virgil Ghiță unfortunately deflected the ball into his own goal following an attempted cross by Zalewski.
Piotr Zielinski, Chivu's player at Inter, also scored in the 62nd minute to make it 4-0. The nightmare continued: following a corner, Jan Bednarek, FC Porto's defender, made it 5-0 with a header. Lewandowski scored again in the 86th minute to make it 6-0.
