The African Football Confederation (CAF) imposed total fines of over 1 million dollars and banned Senegal's coach, Pape Thiaw, and players from Senegal and Morocco, after the tumultuous final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). During the match on January 18, Senegal's players left the field in protest against a penalty awarded to Morocco, and the match was marked by violent incidents between fans and journalists. Senegal won the match 1-0 after extra time, but inappropriate behavior led to severe penalties, including a fine of 200,000 dollars for the Moroccan federation due to the actions of the footballs.

These incidents have affected the image of African football and strained diplomatic relations between Senegal and Morocco. Additionally, Morocco's ambitions to host the FIFA World Cup final in 2030 have been impacted, and the president of the Spanish football federation announced that his country will host the final.
