The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has decided to allow teams from Russia and Belarus to participate again in official competitions and has restored the rights of junior players from these countries. During the online General Assembly, two resolutions were adopted: one proposed by the Russian Chess Federation, which requested the restoration of national symbols, and another by the FIDE Council, which was approved by a wider majority. Although teams from Russia and Belarus are now admitted to official tournaments and the restrictions on organizing events in Belarus have been lifted, the use of national symbols for adult teams remains an unresolved issue.

These teams must compete under neutral symbols until further consultations with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). FIDE will later decide on the use of flags and anthems in competitions for adult teams, according to international standards.
