The England national team qualified for the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup, defeating the DR Congo 2-1 in a match held in Atlanta at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Congolese opened the scoring early, in the 7th minute, through Cipenga, maintaining their lead for almost 70 minutes. Harry Kane equalized for England in the 75th minute, and the same player scored the winning goal in the 86th minute, thus achieving a double.

With these two goals, Kane matched Pele's record in the ranking of the top scorers in World Cup history, now having 12 goals, and surpassed Just Fontaine, reaching 13 goals in 6 matches. England will face Mexico in the knockout stage on July 5 in Mexico City. So far, other matches in the knockout stage include Paraguay - France and Canada - Morocco.
