The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Thursday that it will lift all restrictions imposed on athletes from Belarus, allowing them to participate in international competitions. This decision was made by the IOC Executive Committee, which has removed the participation conditions previously established in 2022 and 2023.
The IOC emphasizes that the participation of athletes should not be limited by the actions of their governments, even in the context of current geopolitical conflicts. Since the last recommendations, Belarusian athletes have competed as neutral athletes in various international events without incidents. The IOC also mentioned that the qualification period for the 2028 Olympic Games will begin soon. Unlike Belarus, the situation for Russian athletes remains complicated, with the Russian Olympic Committee being suspended due to doping issues and non-compliance with the Olympic Charter.
