Aryna Sabalenka, surprisingly eliminated in the quarter-finals of the tournament in Madrid

Aryna Sabalenka suffered a surprising elimination in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid, being defeated by American Hailey Baptiste, ranked 32nd in the WTA, with a score of 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8/6), after a match lasting over 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Sabalenka, the title holder and unbeaten since the beginning of the year, started the match well, winning the first set, but lost the second, having issues with her serve. In the deciding set, she missed six match points, which allowed Baptiste to come back. The latter will face Russian Mirra Andreeva, ranked 9th in the world, in the semifinals, who defeated Leylah Fernandez with 7-6 (7/1), 6-3.
