After the 2-1 victory against England in the World Cup semifinals, Argentine players Lisandro Martinez and Giovani Lo Celso raised a banner that read "Las Malvinas Son Argentinas" ("The Falkland Islands are Argentine"), a political message that could violate FIFA rules.

FIFA's code of conduct prohibits any form of political expression in stadiums, including banners or clothing with political messages. So far, FIFA has not commented on the incident.

Sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, known as Malvinas in Argentina, has been a source of tension between Argentina and Great Britain, culminating in a war in 1982. Argentina claims to have inherited the islands from Spain, while Great Britain considers them part of its territory. The incident is not isolated, considering that there have been other political manifestations during international competitions in the past.
