After missing a tranche of 170 million dollars and allowing a previous program to expire, the Republic of Moldova has restored dialogue with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced that, following negotiations from May 7 to 20, a technical agreement was reached that paves the way for a new three-year cooperation program.

The agreement establishes the economic direction of the country and priority reforms; however, economists warn that it will not bring immediate money into citizens' budgets. Finance Minister Andrian Gavriliță emphasized the importance of reducing the budget deficit without affecting citizens.

Although the agreement is important for Moldova's external credibility, it does not guarantee immediate salary increases or public investments. It still needs to be approved by the IMF Board of Directors to come into effect, and the authorities hope that the program will help maintain economic balance in a difficult regional context.
