A large-scale fraud, intentional insolvency and money laundering scheme in the construction sector has been uncovered by the General Prosecutor’s Office and the General Inspectorate of Police. Six people were detained following searches conducted in Chișinău.
According to investigators, since 2019, decision-makers at a company specializing in the construction and sale of real estate, together with other individuals, allegedly collected more than 25 million lei from buyers. The money was reportedly paid for apartments in a residential building in the Botanica district.
Prosecutors say that the individuals concerned subsequently failed to meet their obligations to creditors and allegedly transferred the company’s assets, intentionally rendering it insolvent.
On October 28, investigators conducted 20 searches at the premises and homes of the individuals concerned, as well as in their vehicles. Phones, accounting documents, written records, SIM cards, optical data storage media and luxury goods were seized. In addition, a vehicle valued at 3,705,000 lei was placed under seizure.
The goods and documents will be examined to establish all the circumstances. The investigation is ongoing, and the individuals concerned benefit from the presumption of innocence.
