Through the budget rectification on October 1, 2025, the amount allocated for subsidies to political parties was reduced from 284 million lei to 232 million lei.

This decision was made without clear communication from the Government or the Coalition, and many leaders from PNL, PSD, and USR were not aware of the reduction. The Minister of Finance explained that a 10% withholding was applied to the budget of the Permanent Electoral Authority, but did not mention that the subsidy had already been reduced. The Prime Minister announced that a new reduction will be discussed in the Coalition, without clarifying the current cut.

The value of the subsidy for 2025 is similar to that of 2023, a year without elections, and reflects the results of previous elections. Additionally, the Government allocated 169 million lei for the reimbursement of campaign expenses, of which nearly 100 million lei will go to independent candidates. The reimbursed money will be used to pay off loans, according to the law on the financing of electoral campaigns.
