A court in Warsaw has decided to place former justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro in preventive detention, accused of corruption, abuse of power, and criminal conspiracy during his term in the nationalist PiS government. He sought refuge in Hungary, where he obtained political asylum, citing political persecution from the centrist government. The court's decision opens the possibility of a European arrest warrant.

In November 2025, the Polish parliament lifted Ziobro's immunity, and the charges include embezzlement of funds intended for crime victims and the illegal use of the spyware program Pegasus. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison. Relations between Poland and Hungary have strained due to the asylum granted to former Polish officials.
