First Vice President of PNL Cătălin Predoiu stated on Thursday that there has been no discussion within the party about the possibility of him being the new proposal for prime minister, after the Bolojan government was ousted by a PSD-AUR censure motion.
"The short answer is no, there has been no discussion among colleagues about me being the prime ministerial proposal," Predoiu stated.
We remind that the liberals voted for a resolution to no longer form a coalition with PSD and to go into opposition, after the social democrats associated with AUR to submit and pass a motion against the Bolojan Government.
Cătălin Predoiu reiterated that his personal position is not to abandon the responsibility of governance alongside other parties with clear Euro-Atlantic orientations. He urged once again to move beyond political differences, "over a complicated past among all parties in the coalition."
"I understand the colleagues' concern to find a solution in opposition that would bring more votes in 2028, but that should not be the concern; rather, it should be to keep Romania on safe ground, which is a priority," Predoiu added, who believes that his opinion is not in "incompatibility" with the party's resolution.
Asked if there is a risk that PNL might split into two factions, amid differences of opinion, he said no, but that a broader consultation would be beneficial.
Cătălin Predoiu also mentioned that it was "logical" to vote for the PNL resolution rejecting a coalition with PSD. He emphasized that the vote was a natural gesture, considering the party's position regarding the motion.
