Nicușor Dan, statements just a few hours before the PSD referendum: "Romania could enter political turmoil" / What he says about a possible motion of censure

The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, stated that it is likely that Romania will enter into political turmoil, considering the disagreements between the coalition parties and the fact that tonight PSD is organizing an internal referendum to decide the withdrawal of support for Ilie Bolojan.

However, Dan emphasized that there is a consensus among the four parties and national minorities regarding the approval of the laws and normative acts necessary to allow Romania to receive funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

"We need to find a way to continue a pro-Western government (...) For now, there is no formula," said Nicușor Dan, appealing not to "get into scenarios."  "We will see what will happen tonight."

"We will have as many rounds of negotiations as necessary to find a stable solution," Nicușor Dan specified.

At the same time, the president refused to say whether he would sign the resignations of the PSD ministers.

Last but not least, Dan emphasized that he does not believe "we are very close to a motion of censure." 

PSD wants to withdraw support for Bolojan, the prime minister says he will not resign

We remind that the social democrats will meet on Monday at 5:00 PM at the Palace of Parliament to consult their members regarding remaining in the current governing coalition. 

On the other hand, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that he does not intend to resign, even if PSD decides to withdraw support.

In an interview with B1TV, Bolojan emphasized that the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, did not ask for his resignation, adding that they will discuss the political crisis that is looming in the coming days.

The PNL leadership will meet on Monday at 6:00 PM to discuss the reaction to PSD's decision, expected around 7:00 PM, while USR leaders will meet at 6:30 PM, having a similar purpose.
