Nicușor Dan, message at the European Summit against disinformation: The state must communicate strategically, not propagandistically / People must have minimal trust when we open our mouths

The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, made an appeal on Wednesday, at the opening of a summit on combating disinformation, to state institutions and politicians to communicate strategically and not propagandistically, emphasizing the importance of media and digital education in the context of national security.

"The state must communicate coherently and strategically, if it can humanly and not propagandistically, as unfortunately the politician encouraged by consultants often does," said Nicușor Dan, who participated in the opening of the event "European Summit for Information Integrity and Combating Disinformation within the initiative Romania Immune."

He drew attention to the fact that disinformation "is no longer a succession of ad-hoc operations, it is coordinated, it is on multiple levels and relies on technology, which is why the response to it must be equally coordinated."

"State institutions must communicate objectively and respond at the pace at which segments of the public expect to receive a response. Cooperation between institutions is needed," Nicușor Dan further stated, emphasizing the need for media and digital education, because "it is a matter of national security."

"We communicate strategically, but the people we address must have minimal trust to listen to us when we open our mouths, that means we need to regain the trust of citizens in public authorities," the president of the state, Nicușor Dan, added.

We remind that the president of the state is expected this week to make a proposal for prime minister, after on Monday he had meetings with the leaders of PSD and PNL, Sorin Grindeanu and Ilie Bolojan.
