The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, explained that, in general, a referendum is justified only when there are well-defined opposing opinions, and in the case of judges' pensions, there is a consensus that it is abnormal for the pension to be equal to the salary. Nicușor Dan mentioned that, after the decision of the Constitutional Court of Romania, a new discussion with the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) is necessary to address the nuances related to the transition period and the relationship between pension and salary.
He also emphasized the importance of his participation in the CSM meetings and has started discussions with judges to create a report on the state of justice. The Constitutional Court has ruled that the law regarding judges' pensions is unconstitutional due to the lack of CSM's opinion.
