On July 1, 2025, Romania's Constitutional Court admitted the exception of unconstitutionality raised by Traian Basescu, announcing that the legislative amendments of 2021, which restricted certain benefits to him, contravene the Constitution. Băsescu will once again be able to benefit from a protocol residence, a monthly allowance and protection from the Protection and Security Service. The decision comes after Băsescu was declared a Securitate collaborator, which led to the withdrawal of his privileges. The former president disputes the accusations, saying he had no links with the Securitate.
