Catalin Predoiu, about the presence of women in the MAI structures: "The percentage is quite good - 22%"

Deputy Prime Minister Cătălin Predoiu stated on Thursday during a debate on "Women in Public Life" that the percentage of women employed in the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) is "quite good," considering "activities that also involve physical qualities and extreme actions," namely 22%.

"The percentage is quite good, because we are dealing with a series of activities that also involve physical qualities and extreme actions, which are more easily accessible to men than to women. For example, extinguishing a fire or immobilizing a criminal. However, we have women in all our structures - Romanian Police, Border Police, Gendarmerie, General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations - with a percentage of 22%, 27,356 individuals. And women in leadership positions, we are talking about a percentage of 12%, meaning approximately 1,200 women who hold leadership positions in various structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Access to positions and responsibilities in the Ministry of Internal Affairs is based, obviously, on rules that impose professionalism and fairness in the selection process, transparency,' said Predoiu.

Predoiu emphasized that supporting women in public and political life is important because they bring a "tact" and an openness for "constructive dialogue," unlike men, who are "more combative."

"Why is it important for this representation to become effective? I can tell the difference between a political measure, a public policy principle implemented by a man or a woman: often, women have the necessary tact, a special generosity, a skill and a political calm that, at times, helps and assists, especially in critical situations," said Predoiu.
