Traian Băsescu, former president of Romania, stated on Digi24 that the Russian Federation is testing our country's response capacity by sending drones into Romanian airspace, considering that they have been shot down in the last three days. Băsescu emphasizes that Romania has made progress, but warns that the country is close to a war situation, given the daily incursions of drones. He believes it is correct to shoot down the drones, regardless of the operation costs, as the damage caused by a drone reaching the ground could be much greater.

Additionally, the former president stated that if things progress and exceed our country's capabilities, Article 4 of NATO must be invoked.

"So, diplomatically, calling the Russian ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the maximum we can do. If things evolve and exceed us, in the first phase NATO must be convened under Article 4. Consultations. That is, information, everyone, you should be aware of the reaction resources you have requested. This time not theoretically, this time we have clear events, incidents that show that escalation is possible. It is possible that we wake up with a swarm and we have no remedy for it," said Traian Băsescu in an interview for Digi24.
