In a press conference, President Nicușor Dan highlighted the seriousness of femicide in Romania, noting that the state is not sending a message of firmness in combating this phenomenon. In 2023, Romania recorded its 30th case of femicide, and Dan emphasized that many of the cases involve repeat offenders. He also noted the mentality problems related to the status of women in society. In the first five months of the year, police intervened in almost 50,000 cases of domestic violence, mostly in rural areas.
