Representatives of organizations from the energy sector in Central and Eastern Europe signed a joint declaration today in Sofia on energy security and regional competitiveness. The document was signed during the international CEE Energy Alliance Initiative conference, organized by the Bulgarian Petroleum and Gas Association under the auspices of Bulgaria’s Ministry of Energy.
The initiative is groundbreaking in establishing a regional cooperation framework in which participants will jointly analyze the sector’s challenges and represent the perspective of Central and Eastern Europe in dialogue with national authorities and European institutions. The organizations are due to meet once every six months.
The declaration emphasizes security and predictability of supply, favorable conditions for investment, and consumer access to energy at competitive costs. The effort comes amid geopolitical tensions, disruptions to supply chains, and price volatility.
The signatories reaffirm their support for the European Union’s climate objectives, including climate neutrality by 2050. The conference also addressed the Regulation on methane emissions reduction, the Net-Zero Industry Act, the impact of ETS2, security of gas supply, and the development of energy infrastructure.
