Banca Transilvania (BT), the largest bank in Romania, launches a special package dedicated to the approximately 5 million Romanians who work abroad and who, most often, tend to send money to their families remaining in the country.
BT thus tries to cover a concrete, technical need, creating in parallel an easier connection within the family. "BT Pay helps you stay connected with family and friends in Romania, to send and receive money quickly and to manage everything directly on your phone – pay bills, check transactions, currency exchange. You can manage everything from a distance without depending on BT's schedule or time zone differences. Plus, you have a Romanian card that you can use anywhere in the world, but also at home when you return to the country," the bank specifies.
One of the most important features of the BT Pay product adapted for Romanians in the diaspora is that for most operations the commission is zero. Thus, transfers can be made in lei or in other currencies without costs, and card operations, whether online or physical payments. Until April 23, anyone who opens an account from BT Pay and registers in the campaign receives 5% cashback on purchases.
How to access BT Pay and what other features does the product have
Romanians in the diaspora must go through three steps to enter the campaign.
- Open a BT account in lei through the BT Pay app, until April 23, 2026, inclusive.
- Use the BT card in euros, issued as part of the campaign, for purchases anywhere in the world, outside Romania, both in physical stores and online. These must be made within three months from the opening of the account at the bank.
- Go to the BT Diaspora website and complete the registration form, and then enjoy 5% cashback (up to 100 euros) from the value of the purchases.
