Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta reacted vehemently to the criticisms of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Oana Ţoiu, regarding the visit of former Prime Ministers Năstase and Dăncilă to China. Ponta stated that every Romanian citizen has the constitutional right to travel and participate in international events without the approval of the MFA. He emphasized that the relationships of the Romanian private sector sometimes surpass official diplomatic representation, criticizing the MFA's reactions as reminiscent of communist ideological practices.
