Mihaela Ciochină, appointed judge at the CCR in 2022 by President Klaus Iohannis, is the leading candidate for the presidency of the Court, with the election taking place on Sunday. With a career spanning more than two decades in Romania's Senate and experience as a presidential adviser, Ciochină could take the helm amid controversy over major decisions. The leadership of the JRC is determined by secret ballot and the presidency is for three years.
