Former PSD leaders Liviu Dragnea and Mircea Geoană were absent from the funeral of party founder Ion Iliescu. Dragnea said he had not been invited and had failed to contact the current PSD leaders, accusing them of disrespect. Although PSD reported that Sorin Grindeanu had contacted former presidents, Dragnea was not included. Ion Iliescu died after a long suffering from lung cancer, and the funeral ceremony took place on August 7, a day of national mourning.
