The management of the 'Prof. Dr. Agrippa Ionescu' Clinical Emergency Hospital announced that Ion Iliescu's health has deteriorated significantly, being now in a critical condition, with multiple organ dysfunctions and severe respiratory function impairment. Hospitalized since June 9 for severe respiratory problems and diagnosed with lung cancer, Iliescu is receiving advanced medical care in intensive care. At age 95, he has a complex medical history, including an operation for fluid pericarditis in 2019.
