The extreme heatwave in Romania is putting the national power system to the test, with peak consumption especially in the evenings, when the use of air conditioners increases. Transelectrica has suspended maintenance work to ensure optimal operation of electricity grids, while Hidroelectrica is ready to supplement production. Hydro production is affected by the drought and the authorities are monitoring the situation at the Cernavodă nuclear power plant. Past experience shows the need to modernize electricity grids to cope with increased consumption in the future.
