Environmental inspectors have discovered an alarming number of dead fish and beavers in the river Târnava Mica, caused by increased salinity following the flooding of the Praid salt works. Monitoring activities have confirmed the absence of live fish and riparian vegetation could be further affected. Drinking water supply has been suspended in several localities due to high salinity and the authorities are distributing bottled drinking water. Natural regeneration of the ecosystem is only possible if pollution is stopped.
