On July 22, Earth could set a new short-day record, breaking a recent record of 1.3 milliseconds. Its rotation has accelerated, and researchers suggest this phenomenon could be linked to the Moon's gravitational pull. This acceleration could require adding a negative leap second to the calendar by 2029, affecting satellite systems and GPS accuracy. Causes of rotational variations include atmospheric changes, melting glaciers and movements inside the Earth.
