Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi said his country firmly rejects Russia's interference in internal affairs, after Russian officials criticized the sentencing of pro pro pro-Russian governor Evghenia Gutul to 7 years in prison for complicity in the illegal financing of the Shor party. Popșoi stressed that Moldova was following its national interests and would examine options to defend those interests. Russia reacted by accusing Moldova of violating democratic principles and condemned the sentence as politically motivated.
