In the first half of the year, WhatsApp removed 6.8 million accounts associated with scams, according to Meta. These accounts were often linked to criminal groups in Southeast Asia using forced labor. Meta has launched anti-fraud measures to protect users from deceptive activities, such as being added to groups by unknown people. The scams identified include pyramid schemes and the use of ChatGPT to write instructions to victims. Authorities warned the public to be vigilant and use security measures such as two-step verification.
