WhatsApp has launched a new security feature called 'Strict Account Settings' or Lockdown, aimed at high-risk users such as journalists and activists. This option adds an extra layer of protection against cyber attacks by automatically blocking attachments and calls from unknown individuals. Activating this feature restricts several functions of the app, including disabling link previews and limiting access to profile information. WhatsApp emphasizes that this option is not necessary for all users, but only for those who may be targeted by sophisticated attacks. The feature was introduced in response to recent spyware attacks, such as Pegasus, and will be gradually available in the coming weeks. Users can enable Lockdown from the app's settings, but only from the primary device.
