OpenAI, known for ChatGPT, has started using artificial intelligence chips developed by Google, signaling an unexpected collaboration between the two AI giants. The decision comes amid the expansion of Google Cloud services and OpenAI's increased need for computing power. Leasing TPUs from Google marks a significant shift for OpenAI, which has been dependent on Nvidia, and suggests a potential reduction in inference costs. However, Google does not offer the most advanced versions of the chips, and OpenAI did not immediately comment on the matter.
