The decision comes amid the expansion of Google Cloud services and OpenAI's increased need for computing power. Leasing TPUs from Google marks a significant shift for OpenAI, which has been dependent on Nvidia, and suggests a potential reduction in inference costs. However, Google does not offer the most advanced versions of the chips, and OpenAI did not immediately comment on the matter.
