Jensen Huang, the CEO of the company, emphasized that Alpamayo represents an important step towards fully autonomous vehicles capable of navigating in complex environments and explaining driving decisions. Although NVIDIA has been known for its AI software, the company is now expanding its focus to "physical AI," integrating intelligence into real products such as cars and robots. NVIDIA is collaborating with Mercedes-Benz to develop an autonomous vehicle based on Alpamayo, with a launch expected in the USA, followed by Europe and Asia. The demonstration at CES showed a Mercedes car driving autonomously through San Francisco, with a passenger at the wheel who did not interact with the vehicle. Alpamayo not only perceives but also reasons and communicates this reasoning, an essential aspect for safety and public trust. In a significant move, NVIDIA announced that Alpamayo will be open source, available on Hugging Face, allowing researchers and companies to adapt it for their own needs. Compared to Tesla, which already offers driver assistance software, NVIDIA aims to launch a robotaxi service next year. With a market capitalization of over 4.5 trillion dollars, NVIDIA continues to be a leader in the AI field, promising a new phase of growth through smart products that integrate software, hardware, and real-world workflows.
