Microsoft has presented its Majorana 2 quantum chip, which promises significantly greater reliability than the previous model, Majorana 1. The new chip allows qubits to withstand an average of 20 seconds, compared to the previous milliseconds, representing an improvement of 1,000 times. Zulfi Alam, vice president of Microsoft Quantum, stated that by 2029, the company will develop a quantum computer capable of solving relevant commercial problems.

Although the current chip uses only 12 qubits, millions are needed to achieve this goal. Microsoft uses Majorana particles to create topological qubits, which are more resistant to errors than traditional models. This technology could revolutionize fields such as medicine and chemistry, having the potential to perform extremely complex calculations. However, assessing these advances is complicated due to the industrial secrecy surrounding the details of the technology.
