Google and Apple have issued urgent software updates after discovering an active hacking campaign affecting an unknown number of users. Google released fixes on Wednesday for several security vulnerabilities in the Chrome browser, warning that one of these breaches had already been exploited by attackers before a fix was available. At the same time, Apple implemented security updates for its entire ecosystem, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Safari. Apple acknowledged that the issues could have been exploited in sophisticated attacks against specific individuals, using earlier versions of iOS. This type of wording is commonly used by Apple when there is evidence that zero-day vulnerabilities have been used in real attacks, often associated with advanced surveillance operations.
