One study shows that every year of school or university reduces the risk of mortality, equivalent to the benefits of a healthy diet.

The study, conducted by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the University of Washington, analyzed data from industrialized and developing countries. It concluded that each year of education reduces an adult's risk of death by 2%. Not going to school can be as harmful to health as excessive drinking or smoking.
