The young democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani achieved a significant victory in the New York elections, winning with 50.4% of the votes, against Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa. Record voter turnout and the enthusiasm of young and educated voters were key factors in his success. Mamdani was supported by 84% of women aged between 18 and 29 and won the majority of votes from voters under 50 years old.

He dominated among diverse demographic groups, obtaining significant votes from Black, Hispanic, and Asian communities, while Cuomo garnered support among white and religious voters. Education also influenced the vote, with Mamdani winning among college graduates.

Mamdani excelled in progressive areas of Brooklyn and Manhattan, but faced difficulties in neighborhoods with Jewish populations in the Upper West and Upper East Side, where Cuomo received considerable support. Mamdani's voters focused on issues such as the cost of living, while Cuomo's supporters were more concerned about crime and immigration. This victory underscores the demographic and political changes in New York, with an emphasis on young and progressive voters.
