The Mexican federal government announced the extradition of Chinese citizen Zhi Dong Zhang to the United States, where he will be tried on drug trafficking charges, including fentanyl, in collaboration with Mexican cartels. Zhang, known as 'Brother Wang', was previously sentenced to house arrest in Mexico but managed to escape. He was detained in Cuba in July, along with two other individuals. Mexican authorities recently handed him over to U.S. authorities.
Zhang is accused of supplying the Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva Generacion cartels, considered the main culprits behind the fentanyl crisis in the U.S. He is also accused of money laundering, having connections with other cartels for transporting fentanyl from China to various regions, including the U.S. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) emphasizes the role of these cartels in the synthetic drug crisis in the country.
