On Saturday, over 4,000 flights were canceled in the U.S. due to a severe winter storm that disrupted power supply for more than 160,000 consumers, especially in Texas and Louisiana. Meteorologists warn that heavy snowfall, sleet, and freezing rain will affect two-thirds of the eastern part of the country, with extremely low temperatures forecasted until next week. President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency in several affected states and encouraged the population to stay safe. The Department of Homeland Security announced that 17 states and the District of Columbia have declared a state of emergency. Additionally, electric utility operators have intensified precautionary measures to limit power outages. Airlines, such as Delta and JetBlue, have announced additional cancellations and warned passengers to be attentive to changes in flight schedules. Authorities urge citizens to prepare for extreme weather conditions and to stock up on food and fuel.
