Anton Gorelkin, a Russian MP, said WhatsApp should prepare to leave the Russian market as the messaging app risks being included on the Russian government's list of restricted software. President Putin has authorized the development of a state-run messaging app, MAX, to reduce dependence on foreign platforms. Facebook and Instagram platforms have also already been banned in Russia, with officials emphasizing that WhatsApp's presence in the country contravenes national security.
