In a surprising recording captured by an open microphone, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, mentioned that he received a "message from Moscow" during his arrival in Brussels for discussions with European Union officials. Vucic made this remark while walking alongside the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, towards the Berlaymont building. Von der Leyen's reaction was to suggest that he wait, thus interrupting the conversation.

Vucic is among the few European leaders who maintain ties with the Kremlin, in the context where the EU has severed diplomatic relations with Moscow following the invasion of Ukraine. The Serbian president was in Brussels for discussions related to Serbia's candidacy for EU membership, while negotiations for ending the war in Ukraine continue.
