The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, made a surprising statement during a visit to Beijing, suggesting that his presidential term is nearing its end and that he might resign before the term is over: "Maybe I will resign soon."

This statement comes against the backdrop of mass protests in Belgrade, where tens of thousands of people are demanding early elections following the tragedy in Novi Sad, which resulted in 16 deaths. Vucic dismissed the significance of these protests, questioning the number of participants and accusing the organizers of violent incidents.

The protests, initiated by students, have gained public support and led to clashes with the police, resulting in multiple arrests and injuries. Vucic's Progressive Party of Serbia has announced its own gathering in the near future, amid rising tensions.
