Vinted, the second-hand clothing platform, is facing an investigation in France due to allegations that certain accounts are being used to promote pornographic content. The government commissioner for child protection, Sarah El Hairy, stated that users are posting ads for lingerie or swimwear, directing visitors to profiles on sites like OnlyFans. These profiles contain contact details that encourage communication on apps like WhatsApp or Telegram.
Although these practices violate Vinted's rules, El Hairy has filed a complaint with the regulatory authority Arcom. According to legislation from 2024, platforms with adult content in France must implement age verification systems. Vinted has stated that it has a zero-tolerance policy towards the promotion of sexual services.
