On Monday, the Lithuanian and Polish presidents, Gitanas Nausėda and Karol Nawrocki, respectively, attended the inauguration ceremony of a modern 40-kilometer section of the Via Baltica road, also known as E67. This is part of a vital 970-kilometer corridor that connects Warsaw (Poland) to Tallinn (Estonia), crossing Lithuania and Latvia. This route not only facilitates transport between these countries but is also a strategic element for NATO, allowing for the rapid deployment of troops in support of the Baltic states. The route includes sections with only two lanes, but there are plans for expansion to improve traffic capacity. E67 extends from Prague (Czech Republic) to Finland, including a ferry crossing, and is essential for regional connectivity. The Suwalki Gap, the narrow strip of land between Belarus and Kaliningrad, is a key point in this context.
