Venezuela has declared that Iran has proposed extensive cooperation to combat "piracy and international terrorism" from the United States, following a phone conversation between the foreign ministers of the two countries. Iran is an important ally of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who accuses Washington of a plot to overthrow him. The United States has deployed a military fleet in the Caribbean to combat drug trafficking, recently confiscating two tankers of Venezuelan oil. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil emphasized Iran's solidarity and the offer of cooperation in the face of American threats. Iran has already supported Venezuela by providing fuel, food, and medicine, and China and Russia have also expressed their support for Maduro.
