The USS Gerald R. Ford, the American aircraft carrier involved in the attacks in Iran, has arrived in Crete for repairs after a fire injured sailors and damaged the ship. The fire occurred on March 12, affecting approximately 100 sleeping quarters and requiring medical attention for over 200 crew members due to smoke inhalation.
Although the fire caused damage, the ship's propulsion system was not affected, and the aircraft carrier remains operational. The USS Gerald Ford, deployed for nine months, has over 5,000 sailors and 75 military aircraft on board. Unlike previous visits, the crew will not be allowed to go into the city of Chania for recreational activities during the stopover.
