The United States, Iran, and a group of regional mediators are in discussions to establish the terms of a potential 45-day ceasefire, which could lead to a permanent end to the war, according to an Axios report based on American, Israeli, and regional sources.
The mediators are considering an agreement in two phases: the first phase would involve the 45-day ceasefire, during which a permanent end to the conflict would be negotiated, and the second phase would consist of formalizing this agreement. The ceasefire could be extended if negotiations require more time. U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned on Sunday to the Wall Street Journal that he set a deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, warning that otherwise, it would face attacks on critical infrastructure, with the deadline being Tuesday evening.
