US trade deficit widened 14% in March to $140.5 billion amid accelerated imports ahead of new tariffs

In March, the US trade deficit reached a record $140.5 billion, according to data released by the Commerce Department. This 14% increase from the previous month is mainly due to the rush by companies to import goods ahead of the implementation of new tariffs, in the context of the protectionist policies promoted by former President Donald Trump.
